Introduction

Midsouth Chamber of Commerce once a growing non-profit company that worked on developing state banking laws, transportation, industrial development, and business taxes for economic growth is now slowly drowning in the sea of information technology (IT). Its vice president of marketing and membership Leon Lassiter pushed the company to network its IT infrastructure and change to a unified software application called UNITRAK. The major problem was that until the push everything was in a silo structure where one computer with one operator did only one function, like sales or memberships. Unfortunately, there is only one person in the IT department and no one consulted with him on what software to buy nor is Lassiter the IT manager. This now has the company in the drink with less than half of the old databases converted to the new software and the IT specialist frustrated, not sure how to convert the old

The management must buy into the idea that the IT systems that are not currently working and fixing them needs to be a top priority. Hence forward the Midsouth Chamber of Commerce needs to understand that without functioning IT they could loose hundreds of thousands of dollars not only in time wasted but also on potential online business customers. It is inevitable in the market these days to have an on-line presence, if you cannot be found online and your services are not quick to respond you can loose hundreds of potential customers. As a whole the MSCC needs to take the planning of their IT systems not as a back burning topic, but as a priority now and in the
