According to Moran (2014), the Middlebury Fire Department’s rejection of Rachel’s application was not proper. Although the purpose of the selection and recruitment process is to choose the candidates who will best perform the appointed tasks, employers have to careful not to discriminate against the applicants. It has been suggested that discrimination is only allowed if the selection is based on communication skills, training education, and ability to work with others effectively (Moran, 2014). On the other hand, with employers, it is illegal to discriminate against applicants if it is based on race, gender, origin, and disability. Also, the selection process has to be clear of discrimination. Companies have to be careful to not make certain
