Middle School Theater Experience

My middle school theater experience has been one of the most memorable and meaningful times of my life. It began in fifth grade when I decided to participate in the middle school play, Elves and the Shoemaker. I had an extraordinary experience in the production and I have done many of the productions offered to me within Charlotte Country Day because of that show. I have been a part of many performances but a few of my favorite roles to play were Mr. Smee in Peter Pan, Matilda in Elves and the Shoemaker, and Adelaide in Guys and Dolls. I am excited to end my time with the middle school with the production Bye, Bye Birdie as Rosie. I would like to thank my entire family for supporting me, as well as Mrs. Goodfellow and Mr. Mize for guiding and

My experience in the Mary Poppins cast has been probably one of the best things to happen to me so far in my life. At my old school in 10th grade I was in theatre, then the following year I was bullied out, and I desperately missed theatre. It was my life, I enjoy it so much and it is such a part of me. So coming here and deciding to audition on just the second day of school was a really big deal for me. I was absolutely terrified to, but I stuck through and did it anyways, and I am so happy that I did.…

Where I live, after school, kids head to their houses, in one way or another. When they arrive home, they sit down at the computer, pick up a tablet, or turn on a phone and play games. This isn’t bad in small doses, but in larger amounts it can stand in the way of the child’s life outside of screens. These screentime addicts never meet new people and have no real, flesh-and-bone friends. I believe that we need a new youth theater group, because children will have a chance to meet new friends and discover more about themselves through acting and watching others act.…

I think that a theater would be most useful to the teens in Pulaski. For one, a ton of people like teens in Pulaski have to travel out of town to go to a movie theater. If someone wants to see a movie when it comes out, they could just go to a theater. But since we don’t have one in this town, they have to wait till it’s on DVD or spend like 40 dollars on gas to drive out of town, it’s really pointless. My second point is that it would be a nice place for teens to walk to every once and a while and enjoy a movie with friends or family.…

However, I see myself specializing in two main areas: drama and music. Ever since I was six, I have expressed a deep interest in acting and singing/songwriting. My passion for acting was invoked by the pretend games that my friends and I used to play. Through that, my interest blossomed and I began acting. I believe that I can participate in a community of actors and stage technicians to help bring each other up and improve our skills in this area of the arts.…

I knew that I wanted to study musical theatre in college when I was apart of the acting ensemble my freshman year at the School of Arts and Enterprise; our theatre community loved musical theatre. We had a project called performance boards which is modeled after a college audition, I had to pick two contrasting monologues and two contrasting songs and perform my material in front of a panel. If we didn’t meet the work ethic and potential the panel was looking for then we got cut from the acting ensemble. I wasn’t one of the students that got cut. Through the project I learned that musical theatre was an art form I wanted to pursue.…
