Middle School Reflective Essay

During my time as a writer in middle school I improved my ability in many areas. I never liked writing essays in english, the only part I really liked about was my friends in that class. I would want to talk to them the whole period instead of doing my work but I couldn’t. Some of my best strengths as a writer in middle school are coming up with stories and being able to describe searnios well. Also one of my strengths are being able to come up with a claim, getting evidence from the text and explaining that. There are areas I could use some growth like transitions of any kinds and proofreading especially. There are lots of different things I am good at and things I need to improve during middle school. For example one of my best strengths …show more content…
Argumentative writing is my best kind of writing because I always get A’s on those kinds of essays and I am good at coming up with a claim, giving supporting evidence and explaining my evidence. I am very persuasive in my argument papers because I can come up with a strong claim and back with plenty of strong evidence while using quotes from other texts. For example, in my editorial paper I state my claim as the following, “Athletes get paid way more than they should and that money should be based on other things like the fans experience or people who risk their lives everyday. ” There, I provided my claim well and clearly. Narrative writing I am not as good at, for example I got a B on two of them and also I am not very good at building a plot and coming up with a story. I am not as good as I am at my argument essays then I am at my narrative writing, such as in my fictional narrative I write, “ He didn’t see any of scientists around so he slowly walked towards the the alien and released the alien from its shackles.” That quote shows I am not very good at writing stories. In analysis writing I am better at it than narrative writing but a little worse at than argument writing. I am decent at building an analysis in writing, such as in my analysis of stylistic techniques I state, “It describes the setting and gives an ominous, eerie,

My senior year could have not started any better. On July 30th, 2015 I get a call from Coach Brock Hayes from Louisiana College offering me a scholarship to play at the college level. Ever since I was small, I always dreamed about playing college football and it finally came to reality. Fall camp was getting ready to start, and I was so excited to get my senior season started. I put in so much work and effort to get into the position I was in, so I was not going to let my team down.…

Goals are something that I have always thought about in my life. Whether it be graduating high school, passing a test, or going to college. Back then I had a lot of simple goals that were easy to accomplish, but now it’s time to start making those goals much bigger. As for my first goal I would like to graduate college with no complications. To do this I will have to always stay on task, turn work in when it is due, and taking care of things before it’s too late.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

When it comes to understanding yourself and your personality on a deeper level than normally, you must take personal stories into perspective that have shaped your life while growing up. According to McAdams, “defining oneself through a personal story is an act of psychological and social responsibility” (Engler 2009). Psychological and social responsibility relate to how you act onto actions around you and how you tie society into your viewpoint of the world. In other words, explaining yourself through a story can show several things such as how your emotions played an affect, the type of response you displayed to something that happened, and as well as the lessons you learned through a personal but also social aspect. In addition, McAdams…

The Grades Challenge Freshman year was a difficult year for my grades. I was failing a few classes and it seemed like the harder I focused on the percentage, the farther I got away from it. I talked to my teachers about how I could try to get my grades up and was simply told “you won’t get a better grade.” I was stuck with what I had is what I was told, and they ended up being right about that year. I was worried that maybe something was wrong; maybe I wasn’t as smart as I used to be.…

“I have to go here, dad. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. It was a strange feeling knowing that I would no longer be Lakeland High School’s most spirited student, but there was excitement in knowing that I would soon show my pride for Colorado Mesa. Images of my blue and white spirit wear quickly changed to be maroon and gold.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

Three years into my high school I hadn't gotten into the state of mind that most over achievers have. I had floated through high school thinking I was trying my very hardest to get good grades and become a consistently studious candidate of my school. However, no matter how hard I tried I failed I gave into all the distractions and used all my obstacles as excuses became frustrated and developed an attitude problem that I had created myself. Being a consistent 2.5 student wasn't satisfying or inspiring. Uniquely enough, I had decided to take challenging courses my junior year.…
