Middle School Differences

Improved Essays
Throughout all my years of school middle school and high school were one of the hardest times for me (next to college, but we’ll get there later.) When I was entering middle school in 2008 I was 11 years old. Around this time is when I started noticing differences in me. My childhood and not having my dad started having significant effects on me as a child and me as a student. I often acted out in middle school. I always gave my mom a hard time about doing homework and handing stuff in on time to the point where my school was calling my mom almost everyday. To my mom she felt as if she had a delinquent for a child. That wasn't the case. I didn't have the stability I wished that I did. I always looked at my friends and how fortunate they were

In Ian Frazier’s essay “In Praise of Margins,” he sees marginal places and activates valuable. The very word marginal to Ian Frazier has a simple meaning of a “negative tinge” (Frazier) where it is defined as actions and decisions that are non-goal oriented, or without purpose. In Frazier’s Own life, a marginal activity and a place for him and his friends were out in the woods as it was there “part-time address, destination, purpose, and excuse” (Frazier). However, growing up Frazier and his friends had the woods as their marginal activity which was often seen by society as unbeneficial. But, from an academic perspective, I agree with Frazier that marginal activates are important.…

Moving from Albuquerque, New Mexico was the first impactful event of my life. When I was seven years old and almost a half, my parents told me that my family of six was going to pack up everything, leave our home, our livelihood, and move to Idaho. At this time, I was young, but I knew I was going to miss Albuquerque. Already, I knew I was going to miss the plump dappled quails who walked quickly with their wee babies toddling behind in a straight line and the skinny, all leg, roadrunners who would sprint across the roads. As well as those birds, I was going to miss my little Crocodile Smile green room.…

The big challenge that I got through was getting through middle school all the way to high school without the support of my family. Most students get through high school with the support of their family. Their families helped them through tough times and school problems. I was the complete opposite of those students. All through middle school and up to current time, I was ignored and my family didn’t care when I showed them that I got a good grade on a test or that I was participating in some type of school event and I wanted them to come.…

I didn’t not know what I was expecting. On the first day of high school, I stepped into a crowd of students, waiting to enter the building that would become my second home for the next four years. I didn’ not know where I would stand among these highly accomplished individuals, or if I would even amount to the standards set before me. Self-doubt began to fester inside of me as soon as I stepped through the front doors. I expected less and less of myself as time went on.…

“Come on, get out of the car. It's not a big deal. You need to get to school,” Those were words that I commonly heard the second half of my freshman year of high school. Of course most high school age kids don’t want to go to school, but it's for trivial reasons like the fact the work is boring. I didn’t want to go to school for a much more complicated reason; anxiety rushed through my body any time I even thought about getting close to the school building.…
