Through this club I was able to serve as a mentor for various middle school students. Every Friday I would go to a middle school classroom and spend breakfast with them. During this time I would play games with them or talk to them about anything they wanted guidance with. The really cool thing about this program was that I didn't have to go a middle school, but because my school also has a middle school level. I have also made great friendships with peers outside of my usual classrooms which has helped shape me into a well rounded person. With National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society, we have bettered our community through projects such as a can food drive and buying Christmas gifts for children in need. National Honor Society has also helped me gain connections with our local Special Olympics where I volunteered this past year and plan to continue volunteering. There are some things that we want our dear teachers to know and some things we don’t. The top two things on that list that are pretty true for any middle schoolers. Number one, I did not fall of the chair to get attention. It can be pretty bad when you get laughed at by the class. But I only used this because it can happen for other things like getting yelled at by the teacher, falling on the wet floor, I can go on forever.…

Journalist Sarah Thornton wrote the book on ‘Club Cultures’ at the end of the ‘acid house’ movement and the raves within the ‘Madchester’ scene had finished. The rave scene was starting to become more mainstream therefor losing the desirable effect it had on the individuals within it. Because of this, moral panic that had specifically centred around drugs started to lose its newsworthiness. The main theme that seems to run throughout the text is the topic of subcultures and more specifically, subcultural capital, a term coined by Bourdieu (1984), and how individual status is affected by this. Thornton explains how subcultures are a way for young individuals to express themselves and how these individuals see it as a symbolic gathering; where…
