Integrity is the outward expression of the soul, but character is developed in the spirit. In the case of a Christian, character is the Holy Spirit revealing Himself through the outward working of the person. This is why Paul could write to the Philippians, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,” (Philippians 2:5, King James Version). Specifically, Paul is telling Christians we should submit to the character of Christ which is at work in us because of the Holy Spirit. Finally, the character trait respect is how a person treats another person as well as themselves. Students learn respect from the way they are treated as well as how they are taught to treat others. According to David Brooks, a New York Times columnist, there are two sets of virtues: the résumé virtues and the eulogy virtues. The résumé virtues are, as he explains them, “the skills you bring to the marketplace” and the eulogy virtues are “the ones that are talked about at your funeral — whether you were kind, brave, honest or faithful.” (Brooks). Both are important to have and as an incoming freshman, I hope to develop these virtues during my next four years at La Salle University. I expect to acquire multiple résumé and eulogy virtues by getting involved at La Salle as well as learn how either set of virtues might help me to understand complex current events such as the issues of race in places like Baltimore and Ferguson.…

The function of the National Honor Society (NHS) is to promote leadership and help develop character in students through community service. Being part of an organization like the National Honor Society would open doors to new opportunities such as tapping into a network of individuals that have similar interests as mine. If selected, I would help contribute to the growth of NHS by using my time helping other students achieve their goals academically, whether they need help with school work or studying. By mentoring, this would also help improve my leadership skills. I would also help contribute to the success of NHS by providing ideas for new projects that could positively impact the lives of fellow members and society in general for instance,…

According to Capps (2004), his narcissism not only intensified his schizophrenia, but it helped in his recovery or repression of his schizophrenia. The movie, A Beautiful Mind, attempts to convey the life of Nash in a way that is understandable to all. The movie begins while he is in graduate school at Princeton University and it goes throughout his life, showing his falling in love with his wife, the birth of their first son, and his first admittance into a mental hospital.…

Effective and exemplary political leaders are those who can achieve the greatest good for the general population, serve as an example to the people they represent, and resist the temptations of power. In The Education of Cyrus, Xenophon describes Cyrus as the embodiment of these traits, but Book 8 shows the Persian empire immediately disintegrating after his demise. It would seem that altruism and success as a leader are inadequate, and that Cyrus’ hopes of leaving a legacy disbanded along with his empire. Despite his empire’s lack of longevity, Cyrus was able to leave a legacy through his ability to create such a huge empire, though the qualities and virtues he possesses, and through the impression Cyrus left on Xenophon.…
