Middle School Career Essay

During middle school years, students are not really thinking about careers. This could be due to lack of career exploration, motivation, or that students do not have a full understanding of various careers. During young adolescence, students are just beginning to psychically develop, experience new emotions, and figuring out their own identities. Middle school is a good time to expose students to careers and begin exploring potential ones. As a career counselor, I would implement a career program that is hands on, as opposed to programs that provide an abundant full of information. Middle school students will benefit from hands-on activities that are associated with different careers. As a result, they will promote learning skills. It is important that career programs address the challenges with students and help them promote their identity. My career program would focus on identifying interests, skills, and identifying a clear understanding of various career paths. I would expose the students to as many careers as possible. With career activities and discussions, I would encourage students to learn about different careers. My objective for the program is with a goal in mind, students will be inspired to take challenging classes, be engaged in learning, activities, and increase the likelihood that they will be prepared for college. In addition to the career program, I would have a mentoring program where college students work with the middle school students in providing support with not only career exploration but in their academics and social lives.
