The arts have been under immense scrutiny lately and many people question the meaning of band in an academic curriculum or if band is a necessary part of development. But band is in an important part of many lives. To me band is an escape, a time during my life where I don’t have to worry about the daily stressors that conflict me. I started band mainly to appease my parents who thought it was a program I should join. In middle school I stayed in band because it was a chance for me to see my friends. My freshman year is when I started to love band and develop a passion for what I do and I developed a passion for my instrument. This realization was the start of my journey and it continues with each note that I play
