A messy bedroom, Arctic Monkeys as background music, and an adolescent begrudgingly writing an essay for their twelfth grade English class is the current scene. This is the perspective of a senior; an absolutely glamorous time in life. It's an alarming thought that my high school career has brought me to this point as I search my mind for the correct words to advise you and my fingers tap away at my small keyboard. I'm supposed to give advice and guidance to the future graduates of our beloved Quincy High School, but there's little I can give that can be completely relatable to all. For example, I was raised by a single father, am a part-time cashier, and can barely figure out how the Pythagorean theorem will actually affect my adult life.…

Transitioning from middle school to high school is scary enough, not to mention finding out that your best friends won’t be attending that same school adds a little pressure on a pre-teen who, for the most part is really shy. When I first started high school I had a cousin who was a year older than me, she showed me around school and I ended up hanging out with her and her friends for a few months. Then she introduced me to some of her newer friends who were in the same grade as me. They were nice people and they got me through the first year of high school, but I never felt like I belonged to “their group”.…

As a child of immigrant parents, whom never passed secondary education, I had been told several times by my mother, “I came here so you can have the opportunities I never had.” I never took her words in for consideration. Being callow was part of the predicament, and my early teenage mindset kept me in captivity. Unlike my mother, I’ve been oblivious to the fact that as a citizen, I’m capable of achieving anything. During my last two years of high school, I realized that she was utterly right.…

Middle school is a place where kids finally start to show who they’re going to be for a long time. It isn’t a place to be popular and look pretty. The most important advice for middle schoolers is to be yourself and not let people around you influence your ideas. Mostly everyone comes into middle school thinking how they’re going to get popular or how they’re going to get more friends, but in reality, everyone who has that mindset is a follower and has no self-direction. You’ll never be great in life if you keep following every corporeality everyone does.…

Based off of my involvement in high school, the advice I would give to a middle schooler would be geared towards the kids who struggle with school. Simply, because I was that student who struggled with school all his life. The most unbiased advice I can give such middle schooler is to surround yourself with people who want to be successful in life and in school. Such people will push you to become a better character without you even knowing it and who you surround yourself with molds you. Don’t let your past determine your future because if your past was bad it’s only temporary whereas you still have a future to look forward to.…

From the cereal I eat every morning, to the gifts I open on Christmas; they all come in packages. Ever since I was young, I have been fascinated by the thought and design that is put into packages. Typically, when people think of packaging, they think of boxes and pallets. Little do they know, packaging is an extremely broad area of study and encompasses infinite career opportunities. Its flexibility and focus on business, science, and engineering is what led me to this ideal major.…

Time flies by and before you know it you will be searching for answers in places you never expected. Entering High School I did not know what my plans were going to be after I graduated. I set that thought aside and decided to focus on the present that could affect my future. During the first two years I spent my time focusing on my schoolwork and overall trying to find a passion. My mother always told me once I entered University I should study something I love and not focus on the money aspect, because she would rather see me enjoying my time following my passion than wasting my time studying something I do not love.…

Some would say middle school was the worst or roughest years of their lives, but for me, that’s not true. There were some rough patches, but they weren’t anywhere near as bad as elementary school. I had finally gotten really good friends, and I started to get involved in school activities. This was also the point where I really started to focus on concert band and my grades. Before, I was pretty mediocre when it came to my ability to play the drums, and my grades, before middle school, were also not to the standard I hold myself to now.…

Throughout High school and Middle school I always preferred writing to sitting down and reading a book. Elementary school was a time of exploring both reading and writing so at that point in time I did a lot of both. When I was younger I enjoyed reading for the images on the pages and also the ones that were created in my head. My mother, Lisa, and father, Mark, would take turns reading bedtime stories to my sister, Amanda, and me to expose us to new language and literature. Sometimes Amanda and I would read the stories to each other too so that we could learn to read ourselves.…
