Nursing came a long way since it first started major changes were made in nursing to provide better quality of care to the patient and empowering nurses knowledge to further assist the patient better.
The relationship between nursing practice and theories are closely related. Nursing theories is important because it gives a framework for thought to newly encountered situations, which supplies a structure for analysis, organization and in decision making. Furthermore, by having a defined body of theory in nursing it helps provide better patient care, building up professional status for nurses, improving communication between nurses, and guidance for education and research. The environmental theory helps to relate the environment to human health and sickness. This model of nursing is suitable to all sorts of patient care settings. Besides, the model and theory’s connotation and intent is easily understood. Lastly, as said previously, nightingale’s theory is a timeless theory that regardless of the difference in time it can use even up till date.
The limitations or what we called weakness of this theory is that this theory does not explicitly explain the cause of the environment on patients’ psychological and social health (George, 2011) as Nightingale did not distinct differentiation between physical, emotional, and social aspects of the surroundings, but explain all other aspects under one body (Wagner & White, 2010).
