• Researchers have shown that there is a correlation between obesity and genetics. For example, children who are overweight tend to have overweight parents. However, heredity is only responsible for the tendency to gain weight. Consequently, obesity can cause a child to become isolated form his or her peers. As a result the child can become defiant, aggressive, and depress. These behaviors can cause the child to with draw from school and home, which ultimately disrupts their psychological development process. This relates to Josefina because she could have been expose negative comments by her peers or other adults that say “Hispanics do poorly when tested”. As a result she could have become anxious and allowed others negative views effect he ability to perform, because she is afraid that she will fail. During the middle childhood, children become increasingly conscious of ethic stereotypes, and those from stigmatized groups are especially mindful of them. Therefore, Josefina was aware of the negative stigma and it interfere with her performance level, because her motivation was weaken.
