Children in middle childhood sometimes experience social, cognitive, and physical development at different rates than their peers. Although Haylee’s cognitive development is experiencing strains and shortcomings than what is expected at her age, she is at an age where she still has the ability to improve her cognitive development through time, effort, and encouragement.

Past the struggles and limitations that have set Haylee back, she also possesses strengths that Jerica believe will benefit her in the long run. There is often a hierarchy of skills from which milestones can be determined, however, not every child reaches these milestones at the same rate or the same developmental sequence as other children. Overall, Haylee is an eleven year old, fourth grader that would be classified as developing at an irregular rate, cognitively and socially. On a developmental continuum there can be many stops along the way and children will sometimes plateau or remain at one level for a sustained period of time. However, with time, effort, and a support system, children like Haylee can overcome the obstacles and limitations that affect them physically, cognitively, and emotionally. Haylee’s memory issue, slow-to-warm-up temperament, lack of teacher and parental support, and reading and mathematics impairments do not have to influence her educational success and attainment nor her overall childhood development. If Haylee continues to increase her educational drive, continues attending Micanopy Tutoring, and continues to receive the one-on-one attention she needs, she will be able to overcome these issues. In the short hours per day that Jerica has worked with Haylee, she has enjoyed making an impact on Haylee and seeing her progress even if there is still a long way to
