Mid-term Reflection
I started this course of my placement test results. I didn’t have any idea what to expect from this class. This is my first college level course and I had no previous writing experience. Writing is a process. It takes time and effort. I am still learning the basics of writing.
In the essays that I wrote so far, I had some organization and grammar issues. Just like the majority, I usually take short cuts when I write. I write as if I am talking or texting, I misuse some structures or use wrong grammar in the process. For example, this was a fragment on my first essay: “January 2005, left family and friends…” It should have been like: “In January 2005, I left family and friends….” I also have issues with articles and prepositions.

Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. In this class, my writing has advanced because I am reading more, practicing more, and writing more.…

Writing has not been my strongest subject throughout my time being in school. I’ve always struggled with the English language since it was my second language. This transferred to my writing and it was very noticeable. However, during my time in the Writing 39 series, it has influenced me to use the strategies I learned in writing and apply it to other classes. One thing I’ve discovered from being in Writing 39B is how to interpret the author’s purpose.…

I recently deposited a check for $1000 to be deposited in my checking account at your institution. After doing so I began writing checks to make some purchases. I soon discovered that my checks bounced and I've incurred $75 in bounced check fees. When I looked into the situation I immediately discovered that my initial check had not been deposited into my checking account, instead it was deposited into my money market account. Clearly, a mistake had been made at your institution.…

A student in an English class can write an outline for their essay that does not help them as much as it could. Although most outlines will improve your writing and the organization of your essay, a well thought out outline that you put your full effort into will give you a better chance to succeed. An example of this in my writing is the outline for my first essay, in this outline a lot of things in my outline were thrown out because the outline was not well thought out and was thrown together. This shows how at my early stages of this class my thinking about what I was going to write was not all the way there because there was not a solid frame to build off of when writing. My next essay went better because I put more effort into organizing my essay so I had the best chance to succeed.…

Reflection Paper - Final Exam After taking six years of English through high school, two from a local college, I didn’t think I could ever be surprised by what is essentially a writing class, this class proved that wrong in more than one way. I would start by saying that I don’t believe this class made me a better overall, a better blogger perhaps but I don’t think my writing knowledge has “increased”. I do however think that this class has expanded my mind to blogging and has brought me from a skeptical skeptic to a skeptical believer. Coming into the class I wasn’t expecting to be insanely engaged, after having the class selected to me by my adviser and being one of the two only guys in the class I was just hoping to finish up my last UCOR…

Writing is something that I have always dreaded, but at the same time enjoyed. I never actually noticed how much I enjoyed writing until Professor Clark, told us about her writing anxiety and how sometimes she just didn’t want to write, but its something she still loves to do. This was a huge step for me in realizing that just because I don’t like writing sometimes, doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy it overall. Along with this, this course and Professor Clark have helped me learn a lot about writing and the writing process. Our first assignment, a paragraph about a major goal in my life, was one I was really excited to write and ended up with a B/B+ grade.…

Mrs. Koontz, Last year, when I signed up for Speech and Composition, it didn’t seem like much of a difference than the classes Speech and Fundamentals of Writing. However, I know now that I made the right choice to have a year round class than just a separate units for each topic because I practiced and attained valuable skills such as communication and 10th grade level writing simultaneously instead of a semester at a time. My time spent in your classroom has prepared me for the classes I will be taking next year and beyond, as proper communications and proficient writing skills are required for future pursuits in further education and careers.…
