Conjunction
Conjugation is the course by which one bacterium transfers genetic material to another through direct interaction. It can be defined as the direct transfer of DNA form one bacterial cell to another bacterial cell. The donor is F+ and the recipient is F-. they are attached through a conjugal bridge. The pilus then attractions the two separate bacteria together. Now, the donor bacterium transfers genetic material to the recipient bacterium. During the process of conjugation, one of the bacterium aids as the donor of the genetic material. The other serves as the recipient. The donor bacterium carries a DNA sequence. One strand of the plasmid is transported to the other and the other remains in the original cell. Since …show more content…
It can be defined by a process which a virus transfers genetic material from one bacterium to another. An example of transduction is the viral transfer of DNA from one bacterium to another. However, transduction does not necessitate physical contact between the cell receiving DNA and the DNA that is resistant. Scientists use transduction as a tool to firmly introduce a foreign gene into a host cell’s genome. Transduction can either occur through the lytic cycle or the lysogenic cycle. The lytic cycle leads to the production of new phage particles which are released by lysis of the host. After reproducing, these viruses accumulate and irregularly remove a portion of the host cell's bacterial DNA. When one of these bacteriophages infects a new host cell, this piece of bacterial DNA may be merged into the genome of the new host. The two types of transduction is generalized type or specialized type.
Transformation
Transformation is a process when genetic alteration of cell resulting from surroundings and taken up through the cell membranes. It can be defined as the incorporation of new genetic material into nonbacterial cells. According to our textbooks, transformation naturally in in some species of bacteria. Bacterial transformation is used to make copies of DNA, to make large amounts of human proteins or genetically modify a bacterium or other cells. Transformation involves the use of
