Spillane’s books are considered by many to be a work of art. Unfortunately, he referred to all of his novels as “trash” since they only took him a few days to write. His first book was titled, “I, The Jury” which was an extremely intense book about a brutal detective named Mike Hammer. He composed a novel about Mike Hammer in only nine days. The book immediately became a best-seller, mainly because his audience loved the unsentimental detective. Because of the popularity of his protagonist, Spillane spent the next several decades writing dozens of Mike Hammer detective novels. Spillane received several Lifetime Achievement Awards from various organizations, one of which he was not willing to accept considering the fact that he looked down on his tales as “trash”. Following his stardom, Spillane was hired as a comic book writer for Captain Marvel and Captain America when they first came out. Even though Spillane did not face many hardships, he was still able to become an incredible and successful

He spun humorous and sentimental tales of gamblers, hustlers, actors, and gangsters. Runyon's short stories are told in the first person by a protagonist who is never named, and whose role is unclear; he knows many gangsters and does not appear to have a job, but he does not admit to any criminal involvement, and seems to be largely a bystander. He describes himself as "being known to one and all as a guy who is just around".…
