The name greatest baseball player in history has been floating around for years. Although most readers will say either Mike Trout, Yadier Molina, or Clayton Kershaw. Players who are around today, but in my opinion the title goes to Mickey Mantle.Today's people don’t know about the greatest players of the past.Mickey Mantle is the greatest player in Major league baseball (MLB) history, because he holds many records, he won many awards, and many historians will agree to this.
As a kid Mickey learned to switch hit because his dad was right handed and would pitch to him while batting left-handed. However his grandfather was left handed and Mickey would bat right-handed against him. It created an advantage to where he could hit both sides of the plate, which is not only rare but makes the opposing pitcher think more. Yankees manager in 1951 stated "He's got more natural power from both sides than anybody I ever saw"(Sport magazine 1951). Out of frustration, he called his father one day and told him, "I don't think I can play baseball anymore." His father drove up to Kansas City that day. When he arrived, he started packing his son's clothes and, according to Mantle's memory, said "I thought I raised a man. I see I raised a coward instead. You can come back to Oklahoma and work the mines with me." Mantle immediately broke out of his slump, going on to hit .361 with 11 homers and 50 RBIs during his stay in the minor leagues(ESPN). Nine years later in the heart of mantles career on September 10th, 1960 Mickey Mantle supposedly hit what’s now called “the longest home run ever” measured in at 643 ft.
