Michelle Theer was a bright young woman, who earned her doctorate degree in psychology. She married Captain Frank Martin “Marty” Theer who had a career with the Air Force. Marty’s career would often separate him and Michelle for months at a time. This separation leads to Michelle turning to the Internet to meet men and have sexual escapades to fill the void of her husband’s absence. While living in North Carolina, Michelle meets an Army sniper, John Diamond, on the Internet. The relationship progresses and the couple participates in swinging, vacations, and a brief cohabitation. When Marty returns from a military leave the couple’s relationship is strained. Michelle continues to see John and eventually a plan is hatched to murder Marty. On the night of Marty’s murder, Michelle and Marty have plans for dinner and afterwards they end up at Michelle’s place of work. Michelle goes inside to collect some paperwork and Marty later enters the building to see what is taking so long. Marty is shot multiple times and dies in the stairwell.

Michelle played the grieving widow, but her extramarital affair with John is quickly discovered through an in-depth investigation. This placed Michelle and John with a motive to murder Marty. John was tried first in a military court and found guilty of premeditated murder and multiple other charges. During his court martial, he is sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The charges brought against Michelle do not occur until after John’s trial. Prior to her indictment, Michelle disappears to Florida, finds an unsuspecting boyfriend, surgically changes her appearance, and uses software to create documents of multiple identities. She is eventually caught, tried, and sentenced to life without parole. To this day Michelle and John deny any involvement in the murder of
