Michelle Rhee is a phenomenal educator and a reformer who dared the odds to bring about unprecedented improvement in the education system of the public schools district in Washington D.C. Erikson’s generativity versus stagnation stage describes the characteristics of middle-age adults between the age of forties through sixties. When a middle-age adult makes a significant contribution to the development of the society by training and mentoring children and younger people (Boyd, 2015, p. 400). Michelle exemplified Erikson’s generativity in contrast to stagnation which is an attitude of disconnect from the community in which a person lives. The appointment of Michelle Rhee beat the expectation of many who expected a veteran to be appointed to that position, but little did they realize that Michelle was going to make unprecedented impact on the D.C. public schools. Upon assumption of office, she was set for an overhauling of the school system. She named the new system Impact, and it required the principal and two outside master educators observe teachers. Teachers with high ratings were rewarded and the ones with low ratings were fired. She was radical in her approach, as many people believed that she was out to get teachers.
