Michelangelo was born March 6, 1475 in Caprese, Italy and departed this life in 1564 in Rome at the age of 88. Michelangelo was not only a painter, but was also a sculptor, architect, poet and engineer. Although Michelangelo had many struggles in his life from rejection and losing his mother at such a young age, he was the first artist who was recognized during his lifetime. Michelangelo left behind multiple pieces of art, including a sculptor he named “David”.

As in the Bible David defeats Goliath using just skills and courage. David was a little shepherd boy who decided to fight a stronger enemy in order to save his people from invasion. David wore no armor, all he had was his sling and his courage. Michelangelo made this piece of art because he was asked. He used a water method to block out the marble; then he free carved the marble using a small terracotta mode, his hands and the studies that he made. This piece of artwork tells us that he took a lot of time and effort to make this and that art work was his job. As I had the time to focus and study on Michelangelo, I found out so many interesting things. He worked very hard at what he did best and that was art. Although his family discouraged him, he made the decision to go do his own thing at the early age of thirteen. He became the most famous artist in Italy.
