Micheal Merzenich was one of the world leading researcher on brain plasticity and famous for his innovation and practical inventions in Neuroplasticity. His works mostly involve brain mapping, where brain is trained to think and process information differently. He believed doing the brain exercise is similar to taking drugs to treat brain diseases. He cured some disorder that once thought incurable. He is the first one to design the cochlear implant that allow deaf children to hear. He designed the computer program called “Fast For Words” that last from thirty to sixty hours to help people with cognitive difficulties and also helped lots of autistic children. Merzenich’s work has falsified the belief that brain having limits on memory, processing …show more content…
The cochlea is the microphone that placed inside deaf person ear that amplifies the sound that travels down the auditory nerve into auditory cortex that help a deaf person to hear. Around mid 1960’s, many scientists were against the idea of cochlear implants, but patients came forward to get cochlea implants despite the fact there was some problems and defaults. In addition, he wanted to develop advanced and more effective device that sort out the complex speech into small bandwidth channels and highly affective device that would allow deaf person to …show more content…
To carry on this experiment, he sewed the two fingers of monkey. After several months later, two different maps of the fingers now merge into one. So he came to the conclusion that timing of the input to the neurons was the key to forming it in a map. In 1996, the nucleus of a company was formed by the collaboration of Merzenich and his fellow colleagues. This company included variety of scientific learning staff like child psychologist, plasticity researchers, human motivation, speech pathologist, engineers, programmers, and animators. They developed the program called Fast For Word for those who were language-impaired and learning disabled children. This program teaches them to remember and match sounds and children with language disable children can hear them and sped up. Fast For Words made significant effects on children with language disable by improving their speech, language, handwriting and auditory processing as well as attention and focus. What was happening by Fast For Word was more like internal mental improvement. This program helped autistic children by improving their attention, sense of humor, being sociable, better eye
