The family was living in poverty, but was rich in love for music. All of the children were encouraged to study music. Three of Michael’s brothers formed a group called The Jackson Brothers (Biography for Kids). Michael had undeniable talent and so much promise. Sometimes Katherine would say that Michael’s precocious abilities scared her (RollingStone). In 1964, Marlon and Michael joined the group and renamed it the Jackson 5 (Biography for Kids). The boys won many talent shows and began touring around town in bars and clubs. They were beginning to make a name for themselves. In 1968, Motown Records offered the Jackson 5 a record contract.
