The stagnant air carried with it not a hint of a breeze, traveling as slowly as the rush-hour traffic moving past Impressions art gallery. On the sidewalk outside the Charles Street three-story brownstone, a sign written in old-style font read “Closed for Business.” Nothing could have been further from the truth. Unknown to passersby, inside the posh Mount Vernon studio, business was well under way. Throughout the gallery’s spacious reception area, a vibrant array of stunning artwork hung on the slate blue walls. Visually alluring and thought-provoking, they ranged in style from Impressionism to abstract. Each painting, meticulously chosen and strategically arranged, consequently, never failed in captivating the eye of the beholder. However, on that late Friday …show more content…
After forming a double knot in the heavy-duty twine, she secured it to the back of the steel-framed office chair. Finally, completing the task, she placed her hands upon her hips, leaned forward, and exhaled a deep breath. Seconds later, Michael Veseli, a tall, commanding man with thick black hair and dark, penetrating eyes, stepped out of the hallway and into the reception area. Reaching into his front pocket, he produced a hypodermic syringe and a glass vial that contained a murky yellow liquid, both of which he handed to Rina. Taking a minute to assess her work, he circled the chair, coming to a stop in front of the prisoner. As soon as Rina filled the syringe with the solution, she muttered a few inaudible words over the instrument. In “The Use of Force” of William Carlos Williams, narrator forces Mathilda to open her mouth by physical power, but I agree with his actions for many reasons. Firstly, there’s no other way to make Mathilda open the mouth. According to the story, the doctor has tried his best with the appropriated ways to make the girl open her mouth, but she hasn’t opened her mouth. Thus, I think it’s suitable for the doctor for using his physical strength to make the child open the mouth. Another reason is that the girl deserves the way to open her mouth because she is disobedient to her parents and the doctor.…

Digging the heels of her hands into the small of her back and arching first back and then forward to ease the kinks Dr. Caroline Taylor groaned as the stiffening muscles protested her efforts to loosen them, then ran her hands through her cap of short black hair. She stood at the end of the men's ward surveying the patients lying in the narrow metal beds. Dysentery, an appendix, two leg wounds from farming implements and an assortment of other ills had brought these villagers to the little hospital Dr. Taylor, “Docta Caro”, ran in this nearly forgotten corner of Bukaso. She had just finished rounds in the men's ward and signed off on the various orders for her nurses and still had the women's and children's wards to walk.…

The different artwork for discussion in the paper comes from China, Italy, and Cyprus. The second piece of work that I am going to discuss is Candy Apple Chick II by James Gill. This piece consists of a portrait of a woman looking up, repeated three times along the top 1/3 of the canvas. She is surrounded by a flat but loud orange, trimmed in a rich blue. The remaining 2/3 of the canvas is the lower half of a woman from her shoulders down, stepping out of a car.…

This was definitely the most simple of the displays put here because all of the paintings were lifelike and easy to decipher because they were also more straightforward and seldom open to interpretation unlike the photos in Concentrations 60. Overall, visiting the Dallas Museum of Art was a new and exciting experience because its exhibits really opens one’s eyes as to how art alone reflects different periods of time, cultures, and places around the world and evolves as does humanity. Moreover, it shows how art does not come from culture, but creates it and often evinces the psyche of its…

In the center of downtown Toronto, on 77 Bloor Street, there is a lovely little gallery that features the work of Andy Warhol. The art was displayed so the viewer could experience each piece or collection individually from the others. His prints invoke feelings unlike the feelings I have ever felt when looking at abstract art. The gallery was divided into six sections with each section depicting different ideas that he wanted to create. Some of his most famous prints were displayed like his sets of Marilyn Monroe and the Campbell soup cans.…

Edward Hopper is a famous American realist painter, who was able to express the feelings and sentiments of everyday life in his oil on canvas art. Hence, Room in Brooklyn (1932) showcases what life was like for many Americans during the Great Depression by means of a solitary female figure. At first glance, one depicts a woman, sitting with her back turned towards the viewer and overlooking a tall red brick building through a glass window. The woman, who has short black hair, is seated in a rocking chair on the left corner of the painting. Both her elbows are resting on the arms of the chair and her head is tilted forward and lightly bowed conveying a certain loss.…
