Can you imagine going from being homeless to playing in the Super Bowl? Michael Oher, a person who nobody would have had any hope for, beat the odds to become a professional football player. Michael Oher was born on May 28, 1986 in Memphis, Tennessee. His mother was a drug addict who never took care of him, and he never even met his dad. Even though Michael Oher grew up in poverty, often homeless, and without parents to help him, he still became a professional athlete and even has made it to the Super Bowl twice.
Michael Oher’s early life was full of obstacles and was very hard. His mother was a drug addict and his dad was not involved, so there was noone to take care of Michael or his siblings . Often, he didn’t even have a home or a place

He was so excited to be able the play as a pro with the pros (abcnews.com).. Oher said “People like to talk about “Cinderella stories” but Cinderella didn’t get her happy ending without lifting a finger” (Oher 189). Oher Is saying that he he never gave up, tried hard, and didn’t let his early life stop his dreams . he also recalls, “Draft day was like a dream for me” “I had had dreams about that moment coming years before dreaming about having my name called and waiting for that moment”, (Oher 182), For the 23rd pick of 2009 draft, he heard “The Baltimore Ravens select Michael Oher from University of Mississippi”. This meant that Michael Oher’s new team was the Baltimore Ravens (washingtonpost.com). His dream of playing in the NFL became a reality.

Michael Oher’s career has continued to this day, and he continues to inspire people with his story. Michael is now 29 and plays for the Carolina Panthers. This past year his team made to the Super Bowl. In addition to playing professional football, Oher also has written a book called “I Beat The Odds”. Most of all, he wants his book to reach the more
