Michael Landri Case

Defendant Marriott International, Inc. (Marriott Del Mar Hotel in San Diego, CA) held the annual holiday party for all of its employees and management. Michael Landri, who worked as a bartender, drank a couple of shots of Jack Daniels whiskey and some beer before he came to the party at the hotel. He kept drinking alcohol consisting of hard liquor at the party. After about 20 minutes, Michael decided to drive home a coworker that had become intoxicated at the party. While doing so, Michael drove reportedly at speeds of 100 mph/hour, his blood alcohol level was measured at 0.16L that caused Dr. Jared Purton,’s death. Michael was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
Plaintiffs, Dr. Purton's parents sued both him and his employer, Marriott Hotels.
