In the book, Queen of Fashion. What Marie Antoinette Wore to the Revolution by Caroline Weber, the author stresses the notion of how fashion can be used to uplift a person’s status and importance in society. In other words, a person’s fashion can dictate just how worthwhile he or she is because the apparel they are wearing helps to define the type of contributions and involvement they have in society. In particular, Weber’s focus on Marie Antoinette shed light onto the stereotypes of women during eighteenth-century France and how the Dauphine redefined gender roles through her fashion. With this in mind, an apparent correlation can be made between the former Queen of France and another historical figure, a fictional character named Rosie the…

Through meaningful symbolism and changing point of view, Chitra Divakaruni’s ‘Clothes’ emphasizes the clash of cultures and finding one’s true identity. Near the end of Sumita’s transition through American cultures, the colors that she wears in America become dull and colorless compared to the traditional colors in India that are rich and beautiful. To begin with, the author uses symbolism to convey the emotional changes that Sumita experiences and Divakaruni does this to keep Sumita grounded with her Indian beliefs during her transition. The saris that are worn have different meanings and emotions behind it. The first reference to symbolism is in the first paragraph, “Make my sari float up around me, wet and yellow, like a sunflower after…

The postmodern movement in art that had started in the late 20th century began to move away from the modernist theory of function over form and not being able to decipher individuals in the art to an art style that was purely about form and focused on the individual. Angela Oatley explained the postmodern movement in the early 21st century as, ”… all forms of art are made with the sole purpose of being ‘consumed’ and with a main target of postmodernism being to appeal to a wider audience the two go hand in hand” (Para. 2). This quote shows how the consumerism-centered focus of the postfeminists is directly tied to the…

    A) Segmentation means that the market is divided into parts, which are identified, accessible, viable and profitable and has a growth potential. In other words, the company believes it is impossible to target the entire market due to lack of time, cost and effort. It needs a targeted segment- a mass of people who can be identified and targeted with reasonable effort, cost and time. Segmenting the market place correctly can make the difference between successes and shut down for a company. M&S also bases its market segmentation through value, many products in M&S's clothing range have a premium-priced, high quality segment (M&S, Clarks, faith) a mid-priced segment (top shop, River Island) and a lower price segment e.g. shoes.…
