“I can accept failure but I can’t accept not trying.” Whose famous words are these? The basketball star, Michael Jordan, a major role model for us to follow. “You have to expect things for yourself before you can do them.” Even in his great success, he never let up. He continued to try his best until he retired.
Michael Jordan was born February 17th, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York, but spent a large majority of his life in North Carolina. Although Jordan is remembered for his basketball career, at a young age he bonded with his father over their love of baseball (Michael Jordan Biography). Jordan attended Laney High School, in Wilmington, North Carolina. He tried out for his school basketball team as a sophomore but was “deemed too short to play” at 5’ 11”. In his first season with the Chicago Bulls he received the NBA Rookie of the Year award. Later in his career he was awarded the most decorated player in the NBA and he received many other awards throughout his career (Michael Jordan Biography).
Michael Jordan is highly known for his success in basketball but we all have something to learn from him. He never gave up even when he was kicked off high school basketball team because he was “too short”. Later in his life after basketball Michael Jordan wrote a book.
