What makes a person an American Icon? Someone who is admired, well-known and represents some aspect of American society? When thinking of an American Icon who better to come to mind, other than Michael Jordan? Michael Jordan is the exact definition of an American Icon. He is well-known for his performance as a former American professional basketball player by young and old generations. Children all over have grown up watching Michael Jordan with his incredible basketball skills and even using his slogan of “Be like Mike” in basketball games they play of their own. Jordan has won several awards for his performance on the basketball court and has set many records that are still unbeaten. Michael Jordan’s most popular endorsement was Nike Air Jordan tennis shoes, which have been popular since the 1980’s. Well, as an athlete Michael Jordan used his determination and popularity to establish a foundation to promote himself, his brand. Michael Jordan was able to cross the racial barriers with his charm and charisma and gain the liking of all races. Jordan serves has a positive role model and is very active within his community. Over the years with his fame and fortune Jordan has donated to several charities, even founding James Jordan Boys and Girls Club, which he named after his late father. The purpose of the organization was to strengthen and motivate families. It allowed children and young adults to realize their full potential.
