In today's society, influence and capturing people's attention is priceless. Athletes have become well-known throughout the world and can be recognized all over. Who they are and what they stand for is known by all, the first “world-famous athlete” was Michael Jordan. In 1990, following a playoff game where the Bulls beat the Celtics, Jordan had 63 future Hall of Famer Larry Bird say “There’s Michael Jordan and then there is the rest of us.”(Bird). Despite the high praise, this was at the beginning of his career before he even won his first championship. Although this was before all of his success, this speaks to the magnitude of the impact and influence he would have. On the USA basketball website they published an article about Michael Jordan talking about who he was, they quoted him saying, "I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying”(Jordan). As well, “I've always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come”(Jordan). These quotes show his mindset and are amazing for young athletes as well as kids to get insight into what is required to succeed at a high level. His grind mentality and never giving up was perfect for young kids and was different compared to athletes today who don't want to work hard and want to be handed opportunities rather than working for them. However, Jordan wasn't perfect, and it's hard to escape that grind mentality for Jordan. the way he did it was gambling. There was a book published by a criminal with whom we would regularly gamble, which was bad publicity because it not only released this but also showed who Jordan hung around.
