As we all know, Michael Jordan was a role model, and somebody that everybody could look up to, but that doesn’t mean that there weren’t some bad things that happened along the way. Some examples are that he punched his teammate Steve Kerr, Michael Jordan's first retirement, His ownership with the Charlotte Hornets, Denying Nike's unfair labor practices, and Leaving Isiah Thomas out of the Dream Team. These have been some of the main issues and controversies Michael Jordan has faced in his life. First, Michael Jordan punches Steve Kerr. During a practice one day in 1995, Kerr was mad at Jordan for his actions, so he decided to go up into Jordan's face. There were rumors from most people around the world that Michael had retired due to his gambling addiction. It was rumored that Jordan's dad had been killed because of his gambling problem. Now, I'm not going to go too deep into detail about his gambling addiction, that's for later on in the essay. Jordan had cleared up that it wasn't his gambling addiction that made him retire. This cleared some things up for some people, but most still believe that it was still about gambling.
The third controversy is Jordan's ownership of the Charlotte Hornets. People were very mad at Jordan because he did not spend enough time in free agency to make the Hornets competitive. This sparked controversy because Michael had taken over the team, in hopes of shaping them into a championship team, but in his second season, had the worst NBA season of all time ending at 7-59. Many people were not happy with Jordan owning the Hornets because people thought that Jordan was ruining the team. Jordan would eventually sell the Hornets on August 3rd, 2023 for $3
