Sports Documentary: Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan. What is your first thought? Is it the few obvious things like greatest basketball player ever or the dude from the movie Space Jam? That’s honestly my first thought as well as except for the fact my first name is Jordan. So, whenever hear about the name Michael Jordan (M.J.) I think about how I would always be made fun of in comparison to him. Before watching an ESPN’s documentary on Michael Jordan’s life, I never thought of him as anything more than a talented basketball player, who was lucky enough to be picked out of the masses to be everyone’s hero on and off the court, but now I view him as some who worked hard for the position that they are in today. In everyone’s lives there are trials

It was mentioned in the ESPN’s Documentary, that M.J. grew up being a child who was very involved in many different activities such as sports and could be described as mischievous by his sister Roslyn Jordan. By the time Michael was twelve years of age, he gained a friend at baseball camp; who he one day went to the beach and swam with. Suddenly, M.J. and his friend were swept under and were taken toward the ocean. His friend drowned. This has caused his to be very hesitant of being near beaches and is scared of large bodies of water ("Michael Jordan ESPN Sports Century" 2011). Though this is something that clearly affected him, Michael Jordan moved on from this as he grew older. By the time he reached high school M.J. had made it evident that basketball was his passion and was in junior varsity at the height of 5’10”. This was not enough for Jordan. He wanted to be in varsity but was rejected since the team did not need another person on defense; apparently, this was Michaels first time being rejected from a team. This did not stop him from making the varsity team his senior year and being recruited into the basketball team at the University of North Carolina; he was 6 feet 5 inches by this time ("Michael Jordan ESPN Sports Century"

It’s pretty obvious by just watching highlights that Jordan was a dominant player on the court, not only individually, but he also had a knack for getting his teammates heavily involved and improving their game. During an interview comparing LeBron James and Michael Jordan in May of 2011 conducted by the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, more commonly known as ESPN, Horace Grant, who was a former teammate of Jordan on the Chicago Bulls, said that “LeBron is going to be one of the top players to ever play the game. But Michael Jeffrey Jordan, who we bumped heads with at times, is I think, the best who ever played the game” Horace Grant went on to say, “Believe me, he made myself, Scottie, B.J. [Armstrong], even Bill Cartwright who I…
