Michael Brown Incident Case Study

The second incident occurred on Saturday, August 9, 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri, where eighteen-year-old Michael Brown was shot and killed. While on duty, twenty-eight-year-old, Officer Darren Wilson, was notified by radio of a robbery at a convenience store on Canfield Drive. Wilson immediately recognized two young African American men walking down the street that fit the description of the suspects involved in the robbery. Wilson immediately approached them and asked them to move to the sidewalk (McCoy 2014). From there, Brown, the bigger one, became furious and angry and turned to him. According to Wilson “‘When I grabbed him, the only way I can describe it is I felt like a five-year-old holding onto Hulk Hogan’” (McCoy 2014). Thoughts then began to through Wilson’s mind and he began to worry about getting beaten up in his car by Brown. Wilson began to decide whether mace or his Taser was an option, but the chances of using mace seemed unsuccessful at the time to Wilson. On the other hand, Wilson did not possess a Taser at the time because it was very uncomfortable for him to carry one (McCoy 2014). Unfortunately, Wilson’s last option was his weapon and he warned Brown while reaching for it. Wilson yelled “‘Get back or I’m going to shoot you’” (McCoy 2014). Brown then grabbed Wilson’s gun and yelled “‘you are too much of a p—- to shoot me’” (McCoy 2014). From there, both started to fight for the gun and Wilson finally pulled the trigger and the inside of Wilson’s car exploded (McCoy 2014). Earlier on in the incident when Brown took off, Wilson explained that Brown had at a light pole and started to confront Wilson (McCoy 2014). Wilson insisted that he yelled at Brown and told him to get down on the ground, but Brown refused and instead started to become aggravated towards Wilson (McCoy 2014). In the end, Brown started to shuddered due to a gunshot womb on his right hand in his waistband. Although Brown was shot, he continued to stormed towards Wilson aggressively. Wilson later testified that due to Brown’s facial expressions, it looked like Brown was upset and he felt like Brown made it clear that Wilson was invisible (McCoy 2014). Wilson then fired at Brown’s head in self-defense because that is all that he could see at the time. According to Wilson, Brown’s feet rose and then dropped to the ground (McCoy 2014). Wilson then realized that Brown’s hostility was gone and his face became impassive. Later, the unarmed African America male teen was pronounced dead and the Ferguson, Missouri, police Officer Darren Wilson was not indicted (McCoy
