Micb 421 Reflection

Decent Essays
I am currently in the Microbiology and Immunology major, so most of my work is focused on bacteria and viruses. As part of my degree, I am taking MICB 421, which is a guided, but independent laboratory research study. In a group, we are required to come up with our own research question, formulate our own approach to test our hypothesis, and in the end, write a paper that will be published in JEMI based on our experiments. This lab course is very different because in all of my previous lab courses, the goals and procedures of all the experiment we perform are given. So all that is required for students to do is to read the lab manual and follow the instructions as stated. The process of coming up with a research question is quite difficult

After today’s class discussion, I was able to learn new and different ways to take data. It was interesting to see how similar and different recording data can be depending on the goal and disorder. For example, last semester I did not find it as hard to track data for my accent modification client. However, this semester I have changed the way I keep track of data during sessions. My client is working on basic age appropriate sounds mainly because she exhibits a lot of phonological processes.…

During the first half of the semester for ENC 1102, I believe that my writing skills have improved from ENC 1101; some of which are getting to page length, correctly citing a source, and incorporating how a quote is related to my argument. I still have some errors within my writing that I have not quite figured out how to tackle. Some concepts that I have not gotten down to a tee must be coming up with a thesis statement, basic grammar errors, introducing quotations, and repetition. I have also learned how to distinguish the difference between a personal essay and an argumentative essay with first hand on the two types and how why my grade differed from essay one and two.…

October 13, 2015 a group of college students surveyed parents with children 6 to 17 to find out what percent of children and teens participate in after school activities. Their results concluded that extra-curricular activities are more common in higher income families than lower income families. The students found that 85% of the children whose parents made more than $75,000 a year, participated in after school activities and sports. Children whose parents made less than $30,000 a year only calculated for 50%. 60% of children who came from high income families took lessons in music, dance, or art while children from low income families represented only 40%.…

Over the course of studying E214 I have thought greatly about my own practice working as an HLTA in a mainstream primary school, where I mainly work with children that experience barriers to learning. These barriers are due to the children having special educational needs or due to having English as an additional language. I now question whether the children I work with are part of a system that has created othering and if through them being othered they included as fully as possible or are they still subject to exclusion through the barriers they experience when accessing the national curriculum or through their progress not being as high as expected by society. (online unit 17) The focus of education appears to be about the grades and progress…

The course AFAS 160 D1 is my first online class, and until now I still felt lucky to choose this class as one of my general education classes, because it gave me a great opportunity and an eye-opening experience about learning the African American Culture which I have never learned before and also gave me a chance to learn online. Describing this course to someone else, I would say this class is interesting and if you want to learn this class well, you need to prepare the Voice Thread and read the book carefully. To be honest, making videos on Voice Thread gave me a unique experience. I still remembered the first time I made a video on Voice Thread how nervous I was, I was afraid to have different ideas with other students and worried if they disagreed with me what should I do?…

Upon reflection of the EDF5141 Health unit. I believe it has assisted me in gaining some skills which will result in helping me reach my goals as a teacher. These goals I have for myself align with two Australian Professional Teaching Standards (APST) by the AITSL. These include ‘knowing the content and how to teach it’ and ‘plan for and implement effective teaching and learning’. ‘Knowing the content and how to teach it’ is a standard from the Professional Knowledge section and talks about the knowledge you have for the subject and understanding how it should be taught which suits the learning style of the students whilst aligning with the Australian government's requirements.…

In high school, I always struggled when we would conduct a research paper. Mainly, because my teachers never taught me how to conduct research correctly, and write a research paper. On the “Synthesis Essay,” I received a letter grade of a “B.” I attended every research session in the Carmichael Library, and Mrs. Washington guided me with my first proper research paper. I learned how to gather evidence and research from our school’s library database. My evidence was supported and my research was supported, however, my explanation were not as supported as they should have been.…
