Calling Julie had not been in my plan. I avoided contacting her for her own protection, I did not wish to put her on the radar of the MiBs, if she wasn't already, still, I felt as if I owed her. I had technically stolen her car, that I might argue after a fashion I had her permission notwithstanding. If she lost faith and reported it stolen, I would have greater problems.
I considered it for a while, finally deciding I simply must call her. If the MiBs aren't already watching her it won't matter, or else they hopefully won't be able to trace the Torfone anyway. Calculated risk.
I quickly set up the clandestine telephony software and placed the call. She answered on the first ring.
“Don't say my name,” I interjected before she could say anything. “They're probably listening. You're probably under surveillance. I have caused you trouble, for which I deeply apologize.”
She responded, “No one's listening, no one is watching me. I'm not on Alex's radar. I'm aware you're helping the ladies from Planet Oz.”

The place was nearly deserted, at this moment we were the only guests at the little run-down motel, and none of the staff seemed to be around except one elderly fellow at the reception desk, and he appeared unlikely to stir. None of the ladies had bathing suits anyway. There was discussion of the possibility of using the pool nude, however Utah is not California, and even though no one else is around, strangers could appear without warning. After discussing the topic briefly the ladies chose to relax clothed. First at poolside for a while and later they strolled around the premises, taking in the beautiful scenery. They even ventured a short distance into the nearby desert.
