Strategic management is very important in the business world. It is the way leaders or organizations steer their company to success over both the short- and long-term. It encompasses a host of decisions that range from what the company will produce, to how it will compete in its industry, to how it will grow over time. At the heart of strategic management is strategic planning. In this paper, the company Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Inc., will be analyzed as a strategic plan is presented in regards to growing the business over the next three years.

With that being mentioned, the direction of DTAG over the near future is all about integration into the new parent company. In that, there will be a lot of merging processes and systems to make the overall Hertz Dollar Thrifty company work more smoothly and effectively. For instance, in the facilities that can allow it, there has already been a marriage of vehicle fleets that allow the three brands to share a majority of the same cars in its daily operations. The benefit will go to the Dollar Thrifty side the most because it will see an increase in the value of its vehicle fleet. Hertz has always been known for having some of the best cars in the rental industry so now DTAG, most of all its customers, will be able to take advantage of this.

Though the integration into the Hertz company is the overall current direction of DTAG, maintaining its profitability, customer base, identity, and differentiation in the industry is still a primary goal for the foreseeable future. Therefore, it is also important for the company to sure up some of its known deficiencies and to continue building on its known strengths while also making sure it is prepared for the potential changes of the industry it operates in. To manage such a feet, it is important to conduct a SWOT analysis of the organization. The "SWOT" in the SWOT analysis stands for a company's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
