Abstract:
The objective of this paper is to explain and define the four functions of management, which are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. The paper will also explain how these four functions are incorporated in the fast food franchise of Hardees and Carl Jr. restaurants. Discussed are different ways the restaurant managers practice these functions for their employees, and how employees use the functions themselves. Intelligent life on the web (2011) stated, “directing helps management to assist the staff in achieving the company’s goals and also accomplishing their personal or career goals which can be powered by motivation, communication, department dynamics, and department leadership”. Leading helps stimulate performance. With negative leading abilities organizations can fail. If a manager is unable to lead, the workers will follow his or her direction. This causes the workers not to be able to lead other workers or new recruits. In an organization such as Hardees, leading is passed down. Management shows the employees how to perform their work task or tasks. Everyone is responsible for multiple tasks. These tasks include preparation of food, stocking, cleaning, and customer communication. Management is often busy seeing to the overall performance and runs. This leads for shift managers and employees to also lead by example. Employees often have to show other employees how to perform tasks.
The final function of management controlling, monitors performance and makes needed changes. Managers control in order to make sure resources are being used as they should be to meet the organization’s goals. Controlling can guarantee success. The key component on controlling is monitor. Managers have to monitor employees and make sure the organization is heading in the right direction. By monitoring the performance and making needed changes, managers can avoid
