O’Sullivan says, “hampering our power, limiting our greatness and checking the fulfillment of our manifest destiny to overspread the continent allotted by Providence (God)...” This statement explains that by shortening the power and greatness, the U.S. could overcome more land across the continent shared with God. The U.S. wanted to conquer more land and gain more power and be seemingly stronger than any other country. Soon, the Manifest Destiny would overcome the Mexicans who were living there.
America hasn’t always been perfect. They insist on always fighting back, but most of the time America cause the battles between nations. This issue shows that there are multiple representations and misunderstandings to a simple war, getting taken out of proportion. The lives of innocent Mexicans and Americans had been taken away over pity misunderstandings and miscommunications. Everyone wanted to be more powerful, but the United States had taken it too far.
