There are many things that I’ve learned from the passages and they are the causes of the war, one of the cause was to gain lands. I also learned about those who happen to live in those conquered land and how they basically gave up their language and culture and were not treated justly by the US, even though it is their land that the United States took. This connects to current issues in the United States and that is illegal discrimination and anti-Mexican sentiments. They are blamed as the ones coming to the United States illegally and ‘taking’ jobs from the ones that are here legally. They are paid low wages and they are stereotyped and discriminated. They are socially and educationally disadvantaged and are limited to low class jobs. They are the ones who was divided from their family. One part in Mexico and one part of the family in the United States and yet treated badly in the United States even in the conquered lands which in fact are their lands. I agree with the author that maybe those that suffered and still are suffering will not be able to completely erase that part from their memory of the war, however they might be able to find peace within themselves and try to move on knowing that whatever happened is still there but life can get better and for that to happen they need love, support and care. They should be treated as human with respect and should be given full advantage and rights and lastly they should not be treated as second class
