There are many stereotypes that we as “Mexicans” or “Latinos” hear and have to put up with everyday. Us Mexicans are not here to: mow lawns , sells drugs , make tacos , or even be called “beaners”. We are people trying to provide for our loved ones just like anyone else.
Everywhere we go there is a different name for us to be known or called by to inform people who we are. People see us and think “ Mexicans are just here to garden “ , “ Mexicans can jump , because they are used to jumping the border “ , those people do not understand what they go through to get everything their families need .
The three main stereotypes about Mexicans that occur in Rancho Mirage High School are ; only Mexicans play soccer because they are beaners

Different races all over the world play soccer just like they would any sport.
Sports do not depend on your race . You should be able to play soccer and not be called “ beaner”. You should be able to do anything you want in general and not be stereotyped. “Mexicans can jump because they are used to jumping the border”. They go to America so they can provide their families with; food in their mouths , a bed to sleep in , and a roof over their heads. Many people do not have to go through this ,while others go through worse and are not judged by what they did or where they came from. We are not saying Mexicans have it harder than anyone else but they sure don’t have it easy as everyone. “Go mow my lawn” . Some may use this as a joke , however not all Mexicans mow lawns .
Its an offensive thing to some of us because yes maybe our father or one of our family members does that for a living. Also, within saying that it make some people ashamed to have a father or any family member that does that type of work ethic. Us as Mexican coming from the Latin race do make fun of each other within ourselves.

Most people feel that they know all about stereotypes and probably think they know most of their risks, but that is not the case. The definition of a stereotype is any commonly known public belief about a certain social group or a type of individual. Stereotypes are often created about people of specific cultures or races, but everyone can be affected by stereotyping which makes it a big, ongoing problem to this day. There are many ways to stereotype a person, such as, all white Americans are obese, lazy, and dumb; men who spend too much time on the computer or read are geeks; all Mexicans are lazy and come into America illegally; all Arabs and Muslims are terrorists; or even positive stereotypes, like that all Americans are friendly, generous,…

My initial reaction to the poem Mexican is Not a Noun by Francisco X. Alarcón was that it was a bit confusing and vague. It really doesn't make much sense, but in order to understand it you have to read out side the words and really think about it. However, I was able to take from it that Alarcon feels that being Mexican is not easy and a lifelong struggle. Alarcón begins the poem by putting the word Mexican in quotations to imply that he does not agree with the general use of the term.…

Thinking about Latino stereotypes in the media what immediately comes to mind are the domestic workers. Every maid in a household is Latino and overweight while the gardeners are named Jose and have a moustache. They usually have a strong accent and speak broken English. After viewing this week’s material, I am confirmed on my view of stereotypes in the media as all the sources presented included the domestic worker.…

All people are criticized at the world, but people from Mexico are more judged. This is because we cross the border without permission to United State, but we have a reason why we do that. The reason is because Mexican need to find a better job than Mexico; and this action can benefit United States too. As John Kennedy said, “Every aspect of American economy has profiled from the contribution of immigrants” each person in America is important doesn’t matter if they are immigrants or…

The fact that the movie is called Wetback is to show just how much social inequality there is for these illegal immigrants. Just to try to live the “American dream”, these people go through checkpoints, starvation, possible robbery, and among other, even death. While the people of the United States have their own sense of poverty, it is much more prevalent in the southern countries. There isn’t a lot of work to be given around in the countries, and a lot of their money comes from what illegal and legal immigrants send back to their families from America. There isn’t a lot of cleanliness in their countries, nor fresh water or enough supplies.…

Mexicans always viewed me as a brat who doesn’t know anything about being Mexican. I’ve always hated when Caucasians put me in the category of “chola” or “uneducated” and automatically think of me as a bad person when I tell them I’m Mexican because there is more to me than that. I could never fit in because like Pat Mora said in the poem “Illegal Alien” I was “too Mexican for the Americans and too American for the Mexicans.” (Mora, 40) Growing up, I was a happy, talkative, and social child. I loved being friendly and talking…

Everything is funny until it's about you. This can apply to many common racial slurs used in the United States today. These statements are not confined to just whites to blacks; they can be the opposite or any combination of races. Racial slurs are inappropriate and derogatory and should never be used on another human being, although interfere with our freedom of speech. This mindset was not pertinent in many people’s thoughts, especially those with European decent. Eurocentrism occupied their way of thinking, so people corresponded to this by discriminating anyone who looked diverse. Mexicans were not the only ones facing this discernment but also there was an additional group of minorities going through similar conditions, and these were African Americans. Both of these groups were also victims of racial slurs that greatly affected them, up until this day. For Mexicans, these types of slurs involved the use of wetback, beaner (Early 20th century), and greaser (Early 19th century) these were most commonly spoken in the Anglo community as well as in the film industry (3).…
