Mexican Racism Essay

How can I say that Mexicans are not racist if my own family considers that a white with blue or green eyes is more beautiful than other who is not white? So, I agree that many Mexicans and also people from different ethnicity believe that the beauty comes depending on your eyes and skin color. I know that not all Mexicans are racist, that is a generalize comment, but it is very common to see white people in movies, novelas, announcements, and commercials. Even media plays an important role in people’s perspective about beauty, I think that concept goes so far than the media. It comes in how we as a parent always associate colors with the good and bad things. It is the concept that white is good and black is bad. I think from that perspective, people associate black people as not beauty or bad people. There is a study that is call The Clark Doll Test. The study is focused on stereotypes and children’s self-perception in relation to race (Explore.com). The study showed black little kids who were answering some questions about two dolls, one white and the other one black. Some of the questions were: which doll you like best or that you would like to play with, which one is the nice doll, which one looks bad. The majority of the kids responded that they preferred to play with the white doll, the white doll was …show more content…
Also the problem is that we do not show to our kids that there is no difference between white and black. White is associate with purity, goodness, and beauty; on the other hand, black is associate with evil and ugly. Therefore, there are children that are not able to see that difference among people. I mean they apply that ideology with people as well. If we take the idea of white and bad are good and bad respectively, with the media influence and the family’s ideologies, it is understandable why little kids preferred a white doll than a black

For every positive thing associated with "whiteness" (purity, safety, attractive, smart, etc;), "blackness" had to be the equal, but negative, opposite (criminal, unsavory, ugly, unintelligent, etc;). The stigmas linked to race has led to active white supremacy within the black community, more commonly referred to as colorism. Colorism is something that plagues the black community and something that I have seen through personal experiences. Colorism as impacted the lives of people I hold dear, causing many of them to develop a self-hate for their skin tone and ethnic features. The same way racism created "white and "non-white", colorism created "light-skinned" and "dark-skinned"; following the same principles of positivity and…

All over the world, people have stereotypes that dehumanize a certain group of people. The government can do all they want to make a certain group of people to be valued more than others. Society has valued or made to value lighter skin as prettier and better. People have privileges that others don 't have just by the way they look. For example, in our class discussion we had many examples about how young children were given the task to describe two dolls a white and a black one and everyone said good things about the white one but not for the black doll.…

Escaping Injustice You are on a deserted island with no escape, you feel like no one is on your side, you want change to happen, but so far all your effort to make it happen has drained out of you, so do you run or do you face the problem? Our nation has had so many immigration problems lately that these problems are getting out of control like as if it were cancer spreading throughout your body. The issue of immigration had been postponed for many decades now until the DREAM Act was passed in 2012 by the U.S. government. It is quite interesting to me that alien students don’t have the right to pursue an education if it was not for the ratification of the DREAM Act. So how are immigrants supposed achieve an education?…

Whitewashing affects Black Culture in a multitude of ways. Many children of color are not sufficiently shown their own culture’s ideal beauty compared to the regularly publicized white ideal beauty. Children of color who are saturated with white ideal beauty standards on billboards and television may not feel comfortable in their own skin and grow up feeling like they are not beautiful. These youths may wish for lighter skin and straight hair like the white models on billboards. There is a lack of role models for minorities to sufficiently broadcast their own culture.…

Structural racism refers to a pattern in societal structure that provides different opportunities and resources to people of different races in a way that systematically disadvantages members of certain races. Structural racism is perpetuated neither through explicitly discriminatory laws nor conscious racial prejudice; instead, it is subtly self-perpetuating. Structural racism is pervasive and entrenched in American society, despite a supposed ‘color-blindness’. As structural racism is necessarily obscured and hidden, it helps to look at specific cases when considering how structural racism continues to harm minorities in the United States. For example, Hurricane Katrina has made structural racism more obvious in New Orleans.…

What this phenomenon is, is best explained by Oba T’Shaka when he describes black people comparing themselves to beauty standards made for white people (p.163). Two different groups of people with distinct looks cannot be held to the same beauty standards. This is the same when comparing the black family to white families. However, in order for researchers and African American people to free themselves from western conceptual incarceration, they must be taught an alternative view. Black people, and those who research black people, need to be taught the African philosophy and cosmology and its themes.…

The U.S. Mexican Border If you’ve paid attention to political news, you’ve probably heard of Donald Trump’s controversial claim: we should build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. The implementation of a wall on the U.S-Mexican Border is an adverse decision. Not only will this be detrimental for the financial state of America, but it could also disturb wildlife, and diplomatic relations, due to Trump’s claim regarding Mexico to pay for the wall. With the 2016 presidential election quickly approaching, it must be ensured now that this wall will never be built before it’s too late. Hispanic Stereotyping Many Hispanics come to America seeking a good life, amazing education, and the “American dream”. Many of these Hispanics are discriminated or assumed they are illegal immigrants that need to be deported. Many Latinos are seen as gang bangers, lazy, criminals, and Drug addicts. But they are so much more than that, and without them the U.S wouldn’t be as successful as it is today. Many people today discriminate Hispanics because of a lot of efforts to remove illegal immigrants.…

Mid Term I think all the course texts we read so far for class all share a common link that connects one reading to another reading. With that being said the three readings I chose were the Pozner piece, McIntosh piece, and the Allen piece. I chose these three pieces because they are all mainly centered around the racism in today’s society. Many people think racism is a thing of the past but sadly this is not true. These three pieces help point out that racism is not a thing of the past and shows the audience how big of a factor racism really is in our everyday lives.…
