Project organizations are known to be advantageous due to the fact that managers can choose people with the right skills from the parent organization (Koteen, 1997). The shifting of employees, however, affects the departments from which they are sourced in a profound manner. It means that these departments are deprived of knowledge, skills and input that these employees provide (Kerzner, 2009). This can be attributed to the fact that project organization leaders are likely to choose the best employees. As a result, the division managers are expected to oppose such moves in order to prevent the serious consequences that may result from the absence of some of their juniors. This is illustrated well in the case of Emil Banowetz. While Banowetz was quite willing to take up the opportunity to join the project team, Jim Burke, his immediate boss opposed the proposal and even offered to resign if Banowetz happened to be forcefully taken from the department. Sam Sargis also declined to let Bob Cates go, claiming that he is grooming him to take over after he retires. The fact that he would be gone for two years would, therefore, curtail his plan.
