After a minute I settled on “Hi! How are you?”.When we arrived I wrung my hands and walked across the dirt road to her house. We knocked on the rusty metal door. When the door was opened there stood a small group of people whom I barely recognized but was somehow related to. I was quite simply perplexed, I stood quiet and just stared. That was my shirt he was wearing, those were my shoes, and that boy was wearing my pants. Most of these people were wearing my old clothes. I stumbled along the usual chit chat but I could not keep myself from glancing every few seconds. I could sense they noticed. I did not know what I should say, what I could say nor if I would be able to say it for that matter and neither did they. There wardrobe was comprised mainly of my old clothes. …show more content…

Upon finishing school they were expected to either help their parents with farm work or create their own local job or practice. Though my parents were taught one thing they dreamt of another. For a small period of time from the 1880s until 1925, American had a relatively supportive and encouraging relationship with foreign immigrants because the United States was experiencing a major economic boom and the more workers available, the more prosperous the country became. However, these happy relations did not last because due to significant events like the First World War and the Red Scare caused many Americans to take on an adverse view of immigrants. “American blood on American soil”, said President Polk when he appeared before congress and this was the start of the Mexican-American war according to the US history books. There are many different stories on why the war started but in the United States the story states that the Mexicans are the people to blame and hence the name: the Mexican-American War. Before this war had begun Americans forget that there was natives who first lived the lands they took over. This means that those people become part of the history of the United States. This comes to be a problem however when children learn about the history of this country and specifically this War with Mexico, they are not taught the different perspective of the opposing side.…

Quite recently, one of the presidential candidates, Donald Trump, declared that if elected president, he would construct a wall between Mexico and the United States. Considering that the border of the United States and Mexico is approximately 2,100 miles today, it seems like a waste of taxpayer dollars and time. Many consider it so and brush off Trump as a lunatic. However, while the concept appears insane now, imagine if America had not secured a victory in the Mexican-American War. A war that concluded roughly a hundred and seventy years ago, the Mexican-American War was a conflict between, as the name would imply, Mexico, and the United States over the territories of California, Texas, and New Mexico, 525,000 square miles of land, which…

The major problem is that the mentality many people have is that every person that is illegal is Mexican, or that every person of colored skin and dark hair is an illegal Mexican. This mentality that people have is what has caused a lot of violence because people have actually gone to believe that they are making everything better by “getting rid of this problem”.…
