Family
Family is a huge deal in Mexico. In Mexico, family comes first. Children are celebrated and are more sheltered than in the US. Family structure is more patriarchal as men are the head of the family and women are the caregivers and models of morality and religion. Men and women have a duty to help each other. Interdependence, rather than independence, is expected.
In the US, family is usually second to work and are typically smaller. Children are often minimally parented and more independent. There is less of a patriarchal structure as wives often fill a dual role.
Family should not be neglected in place of a career. It should come first to ensure a stable and loving environment for children, if there are any. Children should have a balance of how much parenting there should be. Some children may require more parenting than others and some may require less. Children should also be taught skills for them to be more self sufficient when they are older. Husbands and wives should have their own say of how they would like their family structure to be. Some may want it as an equal partnership and others may want a more traditional structure. My opinion is mixed between the Mexican and American way of family.

Conversations begin politely but informally and gradually ease into the topic. Mexicans tend to be pleasant and expect similar responses.
Americans are more direct in communication. It is expected to speak clearly and in a straightforward manner. If you don’t get to the point or “tell it how it is”, you’re wasting time and, to Americans, time is very important. Americans can also be rather impatient with small talk. Americans can seem cold and indifferent to foreigners for their direct and straightforward style of
