Francisca M. Antman used data collected from the Mexican Family Life Survey (MXFLS) which included 9551. She used this because it included variables that she wanted to be used in the study. Which included whether or not either spouse has worked in the past 12 months, what gender the head of the household is, whether or not both spouses are in on decision making regarding big home expenditures, or if it was solely left to one spouse. Based on what she learned from the MXFLS and also taking into consideration the different variables she was able to come up with a formula.
