This week’s readings discusses different aspects of the Mexican war. In “Mexican Views of the Mexican-American War discusses the origin of the war between Mexico and the United States, it states “To explain then in a few words the true origin of the war, it is to say that the insatiable ambition of the United States, favored by our weakness, caused it”, the weakness that it’s referring to is the Mexican government. Like we discussed on Thursday, Mexico has always had a chaotic government that contributed the loss of Mexican land. It can be lead to think that if Mexico had a secure government, the loss of the land wouldn’t have happened. Mariano Otero’s “Considerations Relating to the Political and Social Situation of the Mexican Republic in the Year 1847” relates to the previous reading because he explains the Mexican government and weak army contributed to the loss of…

Articles such as this need to be more widely distributed in ensure everyone fully understands the importance of immigrants in the United States. It’s easy to agree with these myths when you see it on television, in the paper, or your colleagues at work and school what is harder is looking for the facts that immigrants have done more for America than natural born citizens. Maybe it’s our pride which is our downfall, we think of ourselves as the greatest nation on Earth yet were moving closer to denying rights of the very people that have bled, sweated, and cried for our existence. The only thing dated about the article is some of the number and I’m sure if you looked at the numbers today it would say the display the same results. My own opinion is we need to open the door to more people that are being thrown from their home countries that are desperate for a welcoming home to come to.…

Although I did not necessarily agree with most of the group opinions I still value the group’s responses to the literature. I thought that their personal responses about the short story made me questions my own interpretations. I found this story to be very relatable to my upbringing and childhood. My mother who primarily raised me, was born and raised in Mexico and migrated here when she was 18. Although she was in her 40’s during my childhood she still carried many Mexican beliefs with her that she daily expressed with me throughout my upbringing and even today.…

I am very interested in the Hispanic cultural. I have put a lot into getting to know this culture by visiting the Niagara cafe and talking to my friend Hugo who I have interviewed for this paper. He identifies as Mexican American, and is “hispanish and Latino” he says. This means he is ethnically and racially part of the Hispanic Community. “Only about 25 percent of Hispanic Americans use Hispanic or Latino to describe themselves” (page 217).…
