[Medrano] Which means nearly 111,754 people in the last 10 years have faced their biggest fear and haven’t lived to tell the story due to Los Zetas. According to PBS Frontline, the Mexican Drug Cartels have killed 164,345 people as of July 2015. [Breslow] The number has climbed to around 179,000 since then. Murders have occurred in nearly every province of Mexico and around the US-Mexico Borders. As larger cartels began to fall, the smaller ones begin to become more violent. They are all fighting for the route through Chilapa, and will do whatever it takes to gain that precious passage. Due to the fact that smaller cartels do not have control over production, distribution, and sale of drugs on an international scale, they look to kidnapping, car theft, and human trafficking to boost their income. Violence is their key to success. [Neuman] In August 2010, Los Zetas executed 78 immigrants in San Fernando, and just months later Mexican authorities found 47 mass graves with at least 193 unidentified bodies, causalities all due to the drug war. Death is the cartels’ fastest way of getting rid of people who threaten them or disobey them, as well as a way to show they have power over America’s “security”. Thousands of innocent people are killed due to relationships with members of the drug cartels and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The death rate from Los Zetas …show more content…
It was reported by US Department of Homeland Security and the US Customs and Border Protection that drug traffickers have hacked drones to be able to enter America illegally. Drones are used massively by border patrol and local law enforcements, however, the less expensive and smaller UAV’s aren’t as reliable. The cartels can easily send wrong GPS coordinates to the UAV and throw it off, all it takes is a little bit of genius, and Los Zetas seem to have it. So as the drone left the area, the illegals were able to cross the border. This is a huge threat to DHS and the rest of America. If they can hack our drones, who knows what else they can do. [Amir] Far too many opportunities are given to the cartels, such as technology, social media, and intelligence community documents. These give them the ability to know everything they need to know. People are easily able to access international networks and engage in cybercrime and providing the groundwork of terrorism. Not only can Los Zetas access our codes and hack our military-grade UAVs, they are able to get away with: money laundering, financial fraud, counterfeit goods, terrorist financing, drug trafficking, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, weapons trafficking, and certain aspects of cybercrime. [D’Alfonso] Los Zetas are highly considered an organized crime unit. The expansion of commercial air travel and international scope of legitimate businesses created opportunities for Organized
