These billions of dollars spent through taxpayer’s money could be used to help the citizens of the United States who need food stamps or shelter, however, they are being used to support building a wall that does not even stop immigration enough for it to be necessary. In addition, not only is money needed to build the wall, but it is needed to support paying the patrol guards who stand with guns watching the wall. The border patrol “In 1992, …[had] 3,555 agents at the U.S.-Mexico border, but by 2010 there were over 20,100. These changes have both practical and symbolic effects on the hardening of the border” (Jones). The money spent could be used on other issues in America, and for those who would have lost their jobs they could be relocated into different position in protection elsewhere. In the meantime, the feelings of those living by the border seem to hold dislike towards it. Rodolfo Santos Esquer believes that "It looks like the Berlin Wall. It is horrible. It is ugly. You feel more racism now. It is a racist wall. If people get close to the wall, the Border Patrol calls the Mexican police, and they go and question people" (Janzen). To him it is a racist wall, which is shocking because of how hard the United Sates has tried to rid this image of being a racist country ever since the time of slaves. Although the border “… is this physical statement, a big wall lined with bright lights, that says, yes, we are two nations” it does not have to be that way (Janzen). Being of two different political and economic standards does not mean their needs to be a physical representation of the divide between two countries.
After all that has been taken into account the realization that destroying the physical wall on the Mexican border is a good idea because, it will lead to better relations
