Mexican-American War Reflection The Mexican American War fought between (1846-1848) would mark the first American war that would be fought on foreign soil. The war would fight against a politically divided and military unprepared Mexico who didn’t like the fact that the U.S. was expanding west. This was under the Administration of the U.S. president James K. Polk, who strongly believed that the U.S. had to spread across the continent all the way to pacific. The fight would begin because of a small issue along the Rio Grande. This would result in small fights, which would give the U.S. a couple of victories. After the small battles Mexico would lose about one-third of its territory. Texas would gain its independence from Mexico in 1836.
