Selena Quintanilla Pérez was a Mexican-American singer who was very influential in spreading Tejano music. She was very popular in the 90’s. Selena’s career was very successful. Her father was afraid of discrimination, but it wasn't really a problem.

Throughout her career, Selena was very successful. Selena won 67 awards total. She also had 86 nominations. In 1986 Selena won “Female Vocalist of the Year” at the Tejano Music Awards. Selena would go on to win this award seven more times. She also won “Female Entertainer of the Year” at the KFLZ Awards. Selena became a spokesperson for Coca Cola in 1987. Selena won “Female Entertainer of the Year” eight times at the Tejano Music Awards.

In 1993, Selena won “Female Vocalist of the Year”, “Album of the Year”, “Song of the Year” and “Regional/Mexican Female Artist of the Year” at the ACE Awards. In 1994, Selena won the Grammy for “ Best Mexican-American Album”. She was also nominated for “Best Mexican-American Performance”. But, she did not win. Selena won “Female Pop Artist of the Year”, “Regional/Mexican Female Artist of the Year”, Regional/ Mexican Album of the Year” and “Pop Balad of the Year” at the 1995 Lo Nuestro Awards. She also won “Album of the Year- Orchestra”, “Record of the Year”, “Song of the Year” and “Tejano Crossover Song of the Year” at the Tejano Music Awards in 1995. American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers named Selena’s song “I Could Fall in Love” “Among the most played song” in 1996. Selena won “Singles selling Over a Million copies” at the BMI Millionaire Awards in 1996. In 1996 Selena also won “Regional Mexican Hot Latin Track of the Year” and “Regional Mexican Hot Latin Video of the Year” at the Billboard Latin Music
