I chose to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art with my mother because it is one of the largest museums of the world and one of New York’s most visited attractions. It’s famous for its exhibitions and art collections. It’s so huge that a person could spend a whole week exploring the galleries. In order to get to the Metropolitan Museum first we took the 10 number bus to Journal Square via JFK Boulevard. Then we took the World Trade Center train form Journal Square path station to WTC station in Manhattan, NY. Then we walked from Vesey Street to Fulton Street path station to take the 4 number train to 86th street and Lexington Avenue. After getting off at 86th Street we walked towards 82nd Street and 5th avenue to the Metropolitan Museum of …show more content…
The museum itself is located on the entire block on 82nd Street. There were so many departments at the met that a person gets confused where to start from. Those that are famous and I have visited are Asian Art, Egyptian Art, Greek and Roman Art, and Islamic Art etc. The collection of Asian art at the Metropolitan Museum is one of the largest and the most comprehensive. There were certain galleries of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese paintings. Also a great work of antiques such as textiles, bronzes, furniture’s, and ceramics. There were antiques such as bowls, jars with floral decorations and pendants, tea bowls and pots in different shapes, saucers, plates with rocks, fruits, and flowers. One place I loved the most was the Astor Court, which is based on a courtyard in the Garden of Master of the Fishing Nets in Suzhou. This court had three typical garden structures: a covered walkway, a small reception hall, and a half-pavilion along the west wall. It was really beautiful and it felt like as if I was in China or if I stepped into another …show more content…
There was an entire collection of jewelry of princesses, statues of both male and female Pharaohs, temples and tombs. There were different types of models that were found in the Tomb of Meketre which included gardens, stables, sporting boats, funeral boats, and fishing canoes. There were many antiques such as gold and silver vessels made from precious metals, long necked bottles from the reign of Tutankhamen, and fragments of statues and reliefs. There were small sculptures and objects of daily life, such as plates, glass objects, and model palettes. There were different types of jewelry such as faience rings, jasper, amulets, stones, faience beads. The interesting part was that the objects bear royal names. I saw a Canopic Jar whose lid represents one of the royal women in Amarna, Egypt. I also saw letters in Cuneiform which I learned in one of my classes that it was one of the earliest forms of writing. These letters, written in two dialects of the Akkadian language, were sent by the rulers of Assyria and Tyre to the King of Egypt. One of the most popular for me was the Temple of Dendur, a walk-in temple which is located in the Ancient Egyptian section of the

Throughout ancient Egyptian history, art and culture remained constant to support the idea of “order over chaos.” However, in the mid-14th century BCE a revolution occurred in Egyptian society, culture, and religion, consequently causing a brief transformation in Egyptian art. These changes can be detected in the Relief of Princess with an Earring. This sculpture was made in the 18th Dynasty (1353-1336 BCE), during the reign of Akhenaten. Although only a portion of the limestone relief is displayed in the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archeology, the sculpture still demonstrates the attributes that are found in art from Amarna Period.…

The piece that I would rate as my overall favorite was located on the back wall of the exhibit hall. It was very large, so that it covered most of the wall. It was a charcoal sketch on tan paper. Throughout this sketch, there were white highlighted markings, which added to the contrast of the dark, black velvet appearance of the charcoal. The work depicted a woman in Victorian-Era attire.…

This art study will provide a visual and iconographic analysis of “The Palette of Narmer” in the context of the Egyptian stonework from the 31st century B.C. “The Palette of Narmer” (circa 31st Century B.C.) is a carved stone object typically meant for grinding cosmetic powders (to adorn statutes of the gods), but this object was used as a formal ritual object in a temple. This palette was found at the Main Deposit of Egyptian antiquities in Nekhen, which presents one of the earliest known examples of Egyptian hieroglyphics ever found at an excavation site. The iconography of this piece expresses the traditional symbolism of government order in ancient Egypt through the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under King Narmer.…
